The Virginia Center for Literary Arts Author Series at Handley Regional Library continues with a special Open Mic at the Winchester Book Gallery. Local writer Jessi Lewis will read from her novel-in-progress. Her essays, short stories and poems have been published or are forthcoming in Oxford AmericanCarveSonora ReviewThe PinchYemassee, and Appalachian Heritage, among others. Jessi’s novel manuscript, She Spoke Wire, was a finalist for the PEN/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction. Oxford American chose her short story, “False Morels,” as the 2018 Debut Fiction Winner. Her work has been supported by the Tin House Summer Workshop.

VCLA’s Founding Director Sean Murphy and Jessi will discuss the process of writing, the contemporary literary scene, and then pass the mic for interested writers, who will have five minutes to read from their own work.
