Quentin Walston

I’m With You

“I’m With You” is uplifting, catchy, and motivating. Jazz composer and pianist Quentin Walston wrote the song for his trio as the second of four movements in his latest album, “The Good Book Suite”. Inspired by Scripture and his Christian faith, the music symbolizes overcoming challenges in life. Quentin is excited that others might find encouragement as they listen to the suite, following the musical journey, emotions, and themes.

This version of “I’m With You,” recorded live at Quentin’s album release concert in November 2021, features Quentin Walston on piano, Jeff Cuny on bass, and Daniel Kelly II on drum set.  It is a wonderful detail that the venue, Hamilton Baptist Church, is the same space that Quentin recorded the album earlier that year. The songs on the album equally capture the excitement and passion put into each composed and improvised note.  Listen, stream, and consider purchasing Quentin Walston’s “The Good Book Suite” at the links below.

Quentin Walston is an active pianist, composer, and music educator in the Washington DC area.   He composes most often for piano, his jazz trio, and large ensembles, blending memorable melodies, striking rhythms, and adventurous improvisations.  As a music and jazz educator, Quentin spreads the joy of learning and playing music to individuals of all ages.

Quentin Walston was introduced to improvisation surprisingly through bluegrass and folk music. As the harmonica player in the folk band Jake and the Burtones, Quentin fostered a passion for improvising solos while appreciating the musicianship of others around him. Once that budding interest crossed over to his enthusiasm for piano, Quentin shortly began playing and learning jazz. Quentin went on to study jazz and piano at James Madison University, focusing on improvisation, composition, and arranging.
