1455 is dedicated to creating content for both storytellers and those who enjoy gaining insight into the art and craft of the writing process. It is our mission to cultivate creativity and community for our reader and writer audience in the most accessible and inclusive way possible. We are proud to have reached a diverse audience this year through our variety of events and programs. Below are some of 1455’s biggest highlights of 2020:

Every month (and occasionally twice or three times per month!) 1455 invites a different author to read from and discuss their work. In this year’s Author Series events, 1455’s Executive Director Sean Murphy conducts in-depth interviews to take a deeper dive into process, influences, advice, and the person behind the pages.

The 14:55 Interview series gives viewers a glimpse into what makes your favorite creative types tick—from the writers who inspired them, to the weird habits that accompany the practice of writing, their favorite places in the world, and more. Each week, Sean Murphy, Executive Director of 1455, poses 15 questions in (less than) 15 minutes in this fast-paced and insightful series.

To adapt to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 1455 Lit Fest went virtual this past year with with 3 simultaneous tracks, reaching over ten countries. In addition to the tracks, we established our Storyteller Award, which was presented to Jean Case,  and held our 2nd Annual Teen Poetry Contest. If you missed this year’s event, you can watch the sessions on 1455’s YouTube channel.

The 1455 Author Workshops offer a variety of classes from some of our successful author friends including topics such as starting  your novel, cultivating a daily writing practice, and how to use poetry to render the ordinary extraordinary. These classes are hosted virtually in a variety of formats. Check out our continuously growing workshop offerings on our website.

1455’s Movable Type eMagazine has it’s next issue rolling on in January 2021. This unique publication showcases personal stories by exceptional writers, provides invaluable resources, and fosters solidarity. Each issue will provide a forum for a diverse array of poets, masters of prose, essayists, educators and anyone with passion for written expression. Be sure to check out our first two issues on our website.

We Need Your Support

1455 is a non-profit organization that is supported financially by our sponsors and viewers. To continue creating our ongoing variety of free programs, we need your support. Your gift of any amount will have a significant impact on our ability to reach a diverse and expansive community and help us to continue to build a global community of writers, artists, creatives, entrepreneurs, thinkers, and literary fans. If you are enjoying our programs, please consider making a donation.

Sponsor Creativity & Diversity

We are continuously seeking sponsorship and partnership opportunities with organizations who are aligned with our mission to cultivate creativity and community. In 2021, we are dedicated to growing our existing programs and developing new and innovative ways to:

  • Present accessible programs for skill building in the craft of writing
  • Create opportunities for broader diversity in the literary arts
  • Raise the voices of undercelebrated writers
