Karishma D’Souza
Artist Statement
These fourteen paintings, from a time-period of ten years (2008-2018), subtly represent the theme Connection, more directly in the works with people in conversation. They speak of connections of family, ancestry, stories and views passed on, stitching and mending, a person and their memories, ecology: the connections between the natural world around us reaching out – perhaps especially noticeable to me when the human world seems broken. This presentation moves through the places I’ve lived in, stringing them together in a kind of running stitch! Mumbai, Goa, Vadodara (Gujarat), Amsterdam, Lisboa. The compilation brings back memories of people in my life. Many of these works are odes to people I know.
