Audrey Moyer
Family Trees
out the windows with wooden frames
the trees stand
offering cherries
after carrying the snow
it fits like a vase to a rose
polaroid of us
you’re wearing medium wash jeans
polaroid of us
holding hands like a movie scene
as if yellow captions were at the bottom of the screen
the anticipation is all too dramatic
over coffee and in the rain im ecstatic
i crinkle the napkin to my left
fidget with the spoon on my right
with your heart i fit
the record skips
you’re on your way home
before i know it
just like silk
your hand slips
im all alone
sit in the living room
plate of olives
dried up roses
i find staring at the end table
if books would stack when i thought of you
the neighbors would think i love a good fable
if you were a color you’d be white
not because you’re boring
because you’re stable
or maybe it’s because you’re from Heaven
my only angel
or maybe you’re more like green
green is lush
green grows like trees
you’re an emerald divine
in the living room
there’s an empty space in the wall
there should be a portrait of you
pink satin curtains cover my apartment complex numbered 132
i sit in silence what should i do?
i sit so still in need of guidance
tell me what to do
lean over the balcony
it’s my dining room
with a plate of pasta and a silver fork i dine into my food
after waiting
the time is fading
i realize all this mess is because
i just want to see you
