1455 Literary Arts is excited to offer internship opportunities for students.
As an intern with 1455 Literary Arts, you will collaborate with a small, passionate team to produce and promote content, contributing to social media campaigns, marketing materials, and digital storytelling. You will also gain practical experience in podcast production, video editing, graphic design, public relations, and communications. Interns will receive valuable insights into the inner workings of a nonprofit arts organization, including event promotion, media relations, and content creation.
Social Media
Help manage and grow our social media presence across platforms.
About the internship
Job Description:
- Assist with managing multiple social media accounts across various platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, etc.).
- Write engaging and creative captions, posts, and descriptions, including relevant hashtags to maximize reach and engagement.
- Schedule and publish posts, ensuring content is shared at optimal times across platforms.
- Provide live updates during events and engage with followers in real-time.
- Track and analyze social media performance, engagement metrics, and audience growth.
- Contribute ideas and strategies for increasing engagement, followers, and overall social media presence.
- Assist with photography and videography during live events, primarily in the Northern Virginia/Washington D.C. area.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong familiarity with major social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok).
- Self-starter with a positive attitude and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Bonus Skills:
- Familiarity with Buffer or other scheduling tools.
- Experience in growing social media accounts.
- Familiarity with relevant audiences, trends, or groups related to literary arts communities.
Internship Hours:
This internship requires a commitment of up to 10 hours per week, including a weekly meeting with the team to discuss objectives for the week and share updates on activities.
Graphic Design
Create engaging visual content for campaigns, newsletters, and promotions.

- Design creative and engaging graphics for email campaigns, social media posts, and promotional materials.
- Develop visuals for various platforms, including Substack newsletters, podcasts, and digital content.
- Assist in designing layouts for printed materials, including book and magazine layouts, ensuring consistency with branding and design principles.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create cohesive and visually appealing designs that align with campaigns and initiatives.
- Stay up to date with design trends and incorporate innovative ideas into visual content.
- Help design flyers, posters, and other promotional collateral for events and marketing campaigns.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).
- Strong understanding of design principles such as typography, color theory, and composition.
- Experience with layout design for print materials (e.g., books, magazines, flyers).
- Familiarity with designing for digital platforms, including email marketing, Substack newsletters, and social media.

Video Production
Produce and edit high-quality video content for YouTube, social media, and live events.

- Produce high-quality video content for YouTube, the website, and social media platforms.
- Record video footage at live events and assist in producing videos for various digital platforms.
- Edit and enhance video footage, including adding intros, outros, captions, and related content for distribution across platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
- Manage and update the YouTube channel, including uploading videos, optimizing titles, descriptions, and tags for SEO, and ensuring that content is consistent with the brand’s identity.
- Monitor YouTube analytics and help develop strategies to increase channel engagement, subscribers, and views.
- Collaborate with the marketing and social media teams to ensure video content aligns with broader content strategies.
- Assist with other video production tasks, such as organizing footage, maintaining equipment, and supporting live event coverage.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail on video projects.
- Experience managing a YouTube channel, including uploading content, optimizing for SEO, and analyzing performance metrics.

Communications
Support influencer outreach, media relations, and event promotions for 1455 Literary Arts.

- Participate in influencer outreach and marketing efforts by identifying and engaging with influencers to collaborate on promoting events and campaigns.
- Build and maintain media lists, identifying relevant journalists, bloggers, and influencers in the industry for outreach and relationship-building.
- Help draft and distribute press releases, media pitches, and other communications to key media contacts.
- Support in writing and editing content for newsletters, blogs, and other public-facing materials.
- Assist in monitoring media coverage and tracking the impact of PR campaigns and influencer collaborations.
- Collaborate with the social media and marketing teams to ensure cohesive messaging across platforms.
Qualifications:
